The latest digital camera news

Following the recent magnitude 9 earthquake and ensuing tsunami that have struck Japan both Nikon and Canon have stopped production at their plants. This is both in response to the interruption to power supplies, the impact of the human tragedy and damage done to their plants and the plants of their suppliers, preventing the delivery of components. There have also been reports of injuries to staff and those of their suppliers. Canon and Nikon have both donated money to help with the earthquake relief efforts with over 400 million Yen donated between them. It remains to be seen how soon production will resume and what impact this will have on the camera market as stocks begin to run out.

Pentax has just released its new Pentax Optio RS1500 which is available in a wide range of customised exteriors. As a camera it is very much in line with the field with a 14 megapixel sensor and three inch display but the camera’s exterior is interchangeable and comes in a wide range of colours and styles with customised styles for individuals and businesses also available. The body covers are matched by lens rings to give the whole camera a unique look. The camera offers nothing unusual with four times optical zoom and being capable of shooting up to 720p video. It is rather surprising how much digital cameras are beginning to lag behind smart phones as the top smartphones and tablets now offer 1080p recording as a standard feature, the processing power requirement and cost of including that feature may mean the days of dedicated low end digital cameras are numbered as the more highly subsidised and higher volume smartphones move in to the market place, especially when some of them sport dedicated lenses and sensors that match the hardware in the current generation of digital cameras. Other RS1500 features include face and blink detection along with improved automatic shooting modes to make taking photographs easier. Oddly it lacks an HDMI port and has a very limited 21 MB of internal storage, far too little to shoot any length of video and rather disappointing given the low price of flash memory. This can be improved on with SD and SDHC cards up to 32 GB.

Lumix have recently released their FP5 and FP7 models, two elegantly shaped cameras that have single colour, shiny finishes. Both cameras can record 720p film with their stabilised four times optical lenses. The LCD screens on both cameras have grown since the previous models with 3 and 3.5 inch displays now for the FP5 and FP7 respectively, making navigating easier and viewing pictures and film on the camera far higher quality. The newest feature that both share is built in image processing options to allow pictures to be touched up as soon as they have been taken. Lumix’s FP7 has an impressive 16.1 megapixel sensor while the smaller FP5 features a more standard 14.1 megapixels with both sharing the same 35mm four times optical zoom lens. Both cameras will be available in a range of colours with prices yet to be announced. If they continue where their predecessors left off both should be fun low and mid range digital cameras available at competitive prices, price announcements are expected soon from Lumix for both models.

The Bull who Cried....!

Knowing it was about to be slaughtered, a bull in Hong Kong did what many people fail to realize or are skeptic about when it comes to animals - he showed emotion.

As reported by "Weekly World News", a group of workers walked a bull to a packaging factory. They were about to slaughter him to make steaks and beef stews. When they were close to the front door of the slaughter house, the sorrowful bull suddenly stopped going forward and knelt down on his two front legs. The bull... was all in tears.

How did he know he was going to get killed before he entered the slaughter house? He is even smarter than people.

Mr. Shiu, a butcher recalled, "When I saw this kind of so-called "stupid" animal sobbing and with his eyes in fear and sorrow, I started trembling." "I called the rest over to see. They were just as surprised. We kept pushing the bull forward, but he just didn't want to move and sat there crying."

Billy Fong, owner of the packaging factory said, "People thought animals didn't cry like human beings. However that bull really sobbed like a baby." At that time, more than ten strong men witnessed the scene and they were all touched. Those who were responsible for slaughtering even felt more touched and teared as well.

Other workers working at the same slaughter house also came to see the crying bull. It was all packed with people. They were all shock by this scene. Three of them said they would never forget this crying bull when they slaughter other animals.

With both man and animal crying, everyone knew that nobody could kill the bull. The problem was, what should they do with him? In the end, they raised funds to buy this crying bull and sent him to a temple, where the kind monks would take care of him for life.

After the workers had made a decision, a miracle happened. A worker said, "When we promised this bull that we will not kill him, he started moving and followed us."

How did he understand people's words?

Mr. Shiu said "Believe it or not? This is real although it sounds unbelievable." No doubt, this bull changed these butchers' lives.

Men’s brain has a lot of space for handling the analytical process. They can analyze and find the solution for a process and design a map of a building easily. But if a complex map is viewed by women, they can not understand it. Women can not understand the details of a map easily, for them it is just a dump of lines on a paper.

4. Car Driving :

While driving a car, mans analytical spaces are used in his brain. He can drive a car fastly. If he sees an object at long distance, immediately his brain classifies the object (bus or van or car) direction and speed of the object and he drives accordingly. Whereas women take a long time to recognize the object direction/ speed. Mans single process mind stops the audio in the car (if any), then concentrates only on driving.

5. Lying :

When men lie to women face to face, they get caught easily. Woman’s super natural brain observes facial expression 70%, body language 20% and words coming from the mouth 10%. Men’s brain does not have this. Women easily lie to men face to face.

6. Problems Solving :

If a man have a lot of problems, his brain clearly classifies the problems and puts them in individual rooms in the brain and then finds the solution one by one. You can see many guys looking at the sky for a long time. If a woman has a lot of problems, her brain can not classify the problems. She wants some one to hear that. After telling everything to a person she goes happily to bed. She does not worry about the problems being solved or not.

7. What They Want :

Men want status, success, solutions, big process, etc. But women want relationship, friends, family, etc.

8. Unhappiness :

If women are unhappy with their relations, they can not concentrate on their work. If men are unhappy with their work, they can not concentrate on the relations.

Samsung planning to build 300 GHz Chips using Graphene

Samsung researchers have developed microprocessor using the Graphene-Silicon Schottky barrier as they can easily control electron flow by increasing or decreasing the height of the barrier.

Samsung also manufactured a basic logic gate device and verified that this logic gate can effectively perform one function. The basic procedure the device can manage is adding. 

The transistor-like gate called a Barristor.

Samsung researcher’s institute has owned other 9 major Graphene-related patents and it is only current company who has built a working microprocessor using Graphene. 

Graphene is a material that permits electrons to move through it 200 times easier than currently used semiconductor silicon.

If we can create a microprocessor using Graphene than we can build CPU which can run at 300 GHz speeds. So, researchers have achieved half of the normal Graphene electron mobility in making microprocessor. 

IBM has predicted theoretical that we can create 1000 GHz microprocessor using Graphene.

Making microprocessor using Graphene is little tough as it is a semi-metal and we can not control electron flow in a semi-metal. 

We can use cooling solutions to control electron flow in Graphene because electron can not pass through it. But the higher electron mobility might help dissipate the heat energy faster in a cooling base.

We can produce microprocessor using combination of Silicon and Graphene but it does not produce desirable results. 

We can transform Graphene in a semiconductor as it can effectively reduce free electron mobility in this semimetal and this technology has successfully used for Silicene transformation.

Samsung Galaxy S III has been Unveiled in London.

The successor of Samsung's best-selling Galaxy S II smartphone has been finally unveiled inLondon.

• Samsung Galaxy S III is powered by a fast 1.4GHz quad-core application processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM to aid in delivering high-end performance. 
• This smartphone is packed with a large 4.8-inch touch screen display, a Super AMOLED panel capable of delivering an HD resolution. 
• Samsung has announced 16GB and 32GB flavors of the high-end device, which should be followed by a 64GB variant. The handset also comes with a MicroSD memory card slot.
• On the back, Galaxy S III sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution. It also features a 1.9MP camera on the front, to enable video calling. 
• Other specifications of Samsung Galaxy S III include 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4, and NFC (Near Field Communications) capabilities.
• Its Exynos 4 Quad CPU also offers support for 4G LTE connectivity but there will also be variants featuring 21Mbps HSPA+. The LTE variant will be released in June 2012.
• Samsung Galaxy S III is powered by a 2,100mAh battery and is only 8.6mm thick, while weighing 133g. It sports a curved chassis with rounded edges. 
• Samnsung Galaxy S III is powered by Google's Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and also features a new version of the company's TouchWiz UX. 

Samsung has announced that Samsung Galaxy S III will become available for purchase towards the end of May 2012, and that it will be released worldwide through a variety of carriers. 

PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 will be Lunched in 2012

Microsoft is actively working on a new home console, planning to show it off at E3, with integrated Kinect, more capabilities for media playback and a full digital distribution solution.

Similarly Sony is thought to be in the initial planning phase for the PlayStation 4, with plans to unveil it later during the year, perhaps at the Tokyo Games Show or Gamescom.

Sony is working on an upgrade for the PlayStation 3, with the Move built in and with support for three-dimensional games included. 

Both Microsoft and Sony are playing hide-and-seek with the player base and the observers of the industry about whether they plan to announce or introduce new hardware during this year.

If you’re just interested in watching the semi-finalist videos, you don’t need an account.

Question : How long can my work be?

Answer : It can be up to 15 minutes long.

Question : What formats and genres do you accept?

Answer : Any format, style and genre is welcome, so long as it's story-driven. It can be a short film, the first episode of a web series, or whatever else qualifies as a story-driven video. Fiction narratives and non-fiction documentaries are welcome.

Question : Who can participate? How old do I have to be?

Answer : You must be at least 18 years of age and above the age of majority in your country.

Question : Can I submit more than one entry?

Answer : Absolutely. You are welcome to submit as many entries as you like, so long as they are all story-driven and were not publicly shown or distributed before January 1, 2010.

Question : What language must my film be in?

Answer : You can submit your video in any language. If your video contains dialogue in a language that is not listed below, you must provide English captions or subtitles for that dialogue :

These rights must be cleared worldwide for non-exclusive online/internet (including internet television), in-flight and film festival exploitation through at least December 31, 2013. If selected as a semi-finalist or alternate, you may be required by to provide copies of these clearances. Question : My video has already been featured in other film festivals or contests. Can I still enter?

Answer : You bet you can. Again, as long as the video was not publicly played beforeJanuary 1, 2010, it is eligible for Your Film Festival.

Question : Can I use music?

Answer : Absolutely! But remember, whenever you include someone else’s work (like music) as part of your video, you must possess all of the appropriate rights and licenses. For the purposes of Your Film Festival, this includes online/internet (including internet television), in-flight and film festival rights. Remember, if any music appears in your entry, even if it’s in the background, you must clear it. If you are using any recording, you must also clear that separately. Music clearance can be complex, time-consuming, and expensive (particularly for any pre-existing music and/or recording which you intend to license), so make sure you leave plenty of time to obtain clearances and seek professional advice if you are unsure about how to do so. Question : What are the best specifications for uploading my footage to YouTube?

Answer : YouTube accepts most digital video formats. However, for optimal playback, we suggest that you use the compressions.

Question : Does my entry need to be publicly viewable?

Answer : No, not at all. You may upload your entry as either public or unlisted. Unlisted means that only people who know the link to the video can view it, and the video will not appear in any of YouTube's public spaces (such as search results, your channel, or the Browse page). 

Your entry is only required to be publicly viewable if it is selected as a semi-finalist.

Question : Will my submission be viewable on the channel after I submit it?

Answer : Only the 50 semi-finalists, as selected by Scott Free and their curation team, will be available for viewing on the Your Film Festival channel. You'll work with Your Film Festival Limited (or its designee) to develop your concept shortly after the 2012 Venice Film Festival, and then you'll be off to write your script.

Intel to Release Ivy Bridge CPUs (Third Generation Core) on 8 April 2012

Intel is planning to release their Ivy Bridge desktop and notebook CPUs between the 1st and the 7th of April 2012. The launch line up will consist of Intel Core i7-3770K, i7-3770, i7-3770S, i7-3770T, i5- 3570K, i5-3550, i5-3550S, i5-3570T, i5-3450 and i5-3450S Processors; low-end dual-core Ivy Bridge CPUs will follow later or be re-badged Sandy Bridge. As withSandy Bridge, unlocked chips will have 'K' suffix, whereas 'S' and 'T' will represent low-power alternatives. Ivy Bridge is expected to bring lower TDP, 10% improved performance and significantly better  DirectX 11 graphics to the table vs. Sandy Bridge and may provide a strong alternative to AMD's APU platforms.

Ivy Bridge is the code name used for the 22nm die shrink of the current Sandy Bridge chips and features basically the same architecture but with a few minor tweaks and improvements. This includes a new on-die GPU that will come with full DirectX 11 support as well as with 30% more EUs than Sandy Bridge, in order to offer up to 60% faster performance that current Core CPUs according to Intel. In addition, the processor cores have also received some minor tweaks as their AVX performance was slightly increased and Intel has updated the integrated PCI Express controller to the 3.0 standard.

Significant CPU releases also tend to coincide not only with new motherboard platforms - we expect to see Z77, Z75 and H77 at a minimum - but also new hardware. It seems likely that Nvidia will seek to release high performance cards in their new Kepler range on or just before Ivy Bridge's launch in order to take advantage of any spike in demand should it appear. AMD may also round out their range of 28nm GPUs at this time.

Foods for Improving Brain Memory

With the increasing popularity of personal computers, people become more and more dependent on computer and their own brain functions recede such as decreased memory. Some foods in daily life could promote the operation of brain, develop intellectual intelligence, and thus enhancing memory.

India is ready for testing First ICBM Missile Agni-V (5000 Km)

India has begun final preparations for the first test of its most-ambitious strategic missile, the 5,000-km Agni-V, which will prove to be a technical as well as logistical challenge. The Agni-V, which will bring the whole of Asia, 70% of Europe and other regions under its strike envelope, will be tested from Wheeler Island off the Orissa coast towards end-March to early-April, defence sources said. The nuclear-capable Agni-V, about 50-tonne in weight and 17.5-m tall, is bound to generate waves. Once the three-stage missile becomes operational by 2014-15 after “four to five repeatable tests”, as promised by DRDO, India will break into the exclusive ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) club that counts just US, Russia, China, France and UK as its members. India could have gone for a higher strike range but believes the solid-fuelled Agni-V is “more than adequate’’ to meet current threat perceptions and security concerns. The missile can, after all, even hit the northernmost parts of China. With a canister-launch system to impart higher road mobility, the missile will give the armed forces much greater operational flexibility than the earlier-generation of Agni missiles. “The accuracy levels of Agni-V and the 3,500-km Agni-IV (first tested in November 2011), with their better guidance and navigation systems, are far higher than Agni-I (700-km), Agni-II (2,000-km) and Agni-III (3,000-km),’’ said the source.

Researchers "Grow" New Blood Vessels

Synthetic blood vessels that can be made in advance and stored until surgery could help patients undergoing heart surgery, hemodialysis—cleansing of the blood in cases of kidney failure—and other procedures. Laura Niklason, an anesthesiologist and biomedical engineer at Yale University, and her collaborators have grown blood vessels using human cells and tested them in baboons, showing that they provoke no immune rejection and avoid common complications of synthetic vessels, such as clotting, bursting, or contracting over time. Researchers hope these studies will show that the vessels are safe enough to win permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin clinical trials.

During bypass surgery, doctors looking to circumvent blocked arteries usually harvest vessels from a patient's leg or arm. But people who suffer from vascular disease or who have had previous procedures may have no suitable vessels left. The other options have complications: grafts from donors are often rejected by the recipient's immune system, artificial plastic vessels have high rates of blood clots and other problems, and vessels grown from a patient's own tissue take more than six months to mature. "Artificial grafts suffer from clotting and obstruction because they are not tissue," says Niklason, especially when plastic is used.

Niklason says she has solved this problem by creating vessels that are derived from living tissue but can be used off-the-shelf and are not rejected by the immune system. Using a technique she developed at MIT in the 1990s, researchers seed tubular scaffolds with smooth muscle cells. The cells secrete collagen and other connective tissue molecules around the scaffolds, forming blood vessels. After the scaffolds break down, the vessels are washed with a detergent that strips away the cells, leaving behind the fibrous tubes of collagen.

Because the tubes contain no living cells, they do not trigger an immune response and have a shelf life of more than a year. The group has previously grown vessels using cells from several different animal species, including canine versions for heart bypass surgeries in dogs.

Now, in a report published in Science Translational Medicine, the researchers have grown vessels using human cells for the first time. They used the vessels to link an artery and a vein in baboons, creating a structure called a fistula to mimic the setup required by hemodialysis patients, who have a needle injected into such a link two or three times a week to get their blood filtered. Also, while previous versions of the vessels required a wait of several weeks while the insides of the vessels were "personalized" with some of the patient's own cells, a process that makes them less likely to clog, these hemodialysis vessels did not need that treatment.

"That means they could potentially be immediately available to the patient," says Shannon Dahl, a biomedical engineer who cofounded a biotechnology company called Humacyte with Niklason and another colleague to help bring the technology to market. Humacyte initially plans to test its technology in hemodialysis patients, though Dahl declined to give a timeline for clinical trials.

Researchers ultimately hope to test the vessels for heart surgeries, but they first want to show that the technology is safe and effective. "I would love to get to coronary bypass at some point, but we have to prove that this is a good, safe therapy in other anatomical locations first," says Niklason. A hemodialysis graft is much more easily replaced than a bypass graft if there are infections or other problems.

The researchers' use of baboons also provides important additional support before they move into human trials, says David Putnam, a chemical engineer at Cornell University who studies biomaterials. The reason is that the dynamics of blood flow in baboons are a good model for what happens in humans, he says. "They are going about this very well, very carefully. They're building a house with very strong bricks," he says. "And the next step is humans."

The Biggest Stars In The Universe

VY Canis Majoris (VY CMa) is a red hypergiant star located in the constellation Canis Major. With a size of 2600 solar radii, it is the largest known star and also one of the most luminous known. It is located about 1.5 kiloparsecs (4.6×1016 km) or about 4,900 light years away from Earth. Unlike most stars, which occur in either binary or multiple star systems, VY CMa is a single star. It is categorized as a semiregular variable and has an estimated period of 6,275,081 days, or just under 17,200 years. 

Antares is a red supergiant star in the Milky Way galaxy and the sixteenth brightest star in the nighttime sky (sometimes listed as fifteenth brightest, if the two brighter components of the Capella quadruple star system are counted as one star). Along with Aldebaran, Spica, and Regulus it is one of the four brightest stars near the ecliptic. Antares is a variable star, whose apparent magnitude varies from +0.9 to +1.8. 

The Pistol Star is a blue hypergiant and is one of the most luminous known stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is one of many massive young stars in the Quintuplet cluster in the Galactic Center region. The star owes its name to the shape of the Pistol Nebula, which it illuminates. It is located approximately 25,000 light years from Earth in the direction of Sagittarius. It would be visible to the naked eye as a fourth magnitude star, if it were not for the interstellar dust that completely hides it from view in visible light. 

Rigel (β Ori / β Orionis / Beta Orionis) is the brightest star in the constellation Orion and the sixth brightest star in the sky, with visual magnitude 0.18. Although it has the Bayer designation "beta", it is almost always brighter than Alpha Orionis (Betelgeuse). 

Aldebaran (α Tau, α Tauri, Alpha Tauri) is an orange giant star located about 65 light years away in the zodiac constellation of Taurus. With an average apparent magnitude of 0.87 it is the brightest star in the constellation and is one of the brightest stars in the nighttime sky. The name Aldebaran is Arabic (الدبران al-dabarān) and translates literally as "the follower", presumably because this bright star appears to follow the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters star cluster in the night sky. This star is also called the Bull's Eye because of its striking orange color and its location in the bull's head shaped asterism. NASA's Pioneer 10 spacecraft, which flew by Jupiter in 1973, is currently traveling in the direction and will reach it in about two million years. 

Arcturus (α Boo / α Boötis / Alpha Boötis) is the brightest star in the constellation Boötes. With a visual magnitude of −0.05, it is also the third brightest star in the night sky, after Sirius and Canopus. It is, however, fainter than the combined light of the two main components of Alpha Centauri, which are too close together for the eye to resolve as separate sources of light, making Arcturus appear to be the fourth brightest. It is the second brightest star visible from northern latitudes and the brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere. The star is in the Local Interstellar Cloud.

Pollux (β Gem / β Geminorum / Beta Geminorum) is an orange giant star approximately 34 light-years from the Earth in the constellation of Gemini (the Twins). Pollux is the brightest star in the constellation, brighter than Castor (Alpha Geminorum). As of 2006, Pollux was confirmed to have an extrasolar planet orbiting it.

Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. With a visual apparent magnitude of −1.46, it is almost twice as bright as Canopus, the next brightest star. The name Sirius is derived from the Ancient Greek Σείριος. The star has the Bayer designation α Canis Majoris (α CMa, or Alpha Canis Majoris). What the naked eye perceives as a single star is actually a binary star system, consisting of a white main sequence star of spectral type A1V, termed Sirius A, and a faint white dwarf companion of spectral type DA2, termed Sirius B.

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. The Sun has a diameter of about 1,392,000 kilometres (865,000 mi) (about 109 Earths), and by itself accounts for about 99.86% of the Solar System's mass; the remainder consists of the planets (including Earth), asteroids, meteoroids, comets, and dust in orbit. About three-fourths of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen, while most of the rest is helium.
